SICF will be supporting the Spanish dancer’s performances at ICCR and Instituto Cervantes in Delhi
Mónica de la Fuente is an actress, dancer, choreographer and art director, as well as a pioneer in Spain in researching Indian performing arts and adapting them to a contemporary context. She studied Bharata Natyam and Kathakali in India for seven years at the country’s most prestigious performance art schools.
On October 8, the Spanish dancer will be taking part in a dance festival organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). ICCR was founded in 1950 to help create and build foreign cultural relations, boost mutual understanding between India and other countries and promote cultural exchanges.
For October 9, Instituto Cervantes has scheduled another performance by Mónica de la Fuente. This time, she will present her show ‘La voz del cuerpo’, sharing the spotlight with Ravi Prasad, the Kerala-born multi-faceted musician and composer whose music career spans a vast 30 years. This experimental show stems from a collaboration between the two artists through which they explore the languages of sound and movement by mixing the classic codes of performing arts in India with other contemporary languages, to discover new paths for cultural encounters.
The Spain India Council Foundation will be supporting the two events to foster mutual understanding between the two countries in different areas. Mónica de la Fuente was the first Spanish actress whose studies in India were funded and recognised by the Spain-India Exchange Scholarship of AECI (Spanish Agency for International Cooperation) and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations - ICCR. She recently premiered her show ‘La voz del cuerpo’ in Madrid during the ‘Experimenta India’ festival, organised by Casa de la India and Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid.
