The Spain-India Council Foundation and the Mehli Mehta Music Foundation signed on November 19, 2011, in Mumbai, India, a collaboration agreement under which the Spain-India Council Foundation will support the Mehli Mehta Music Foundation.
The Mehli Mehta Music Foundation, established in 1995, is a not-for-profit organization that promotes western classical music through the presentation of high quality concerts and music education for children. The MMMF's mission is to create a greater awareness and appreciation of the classical traditions in western music, to share the knowledge and understanding of music, and make music education & the joy that comes with it accessible to all.
The Mehli Mehta Music Foundation honours Mr. Mehli Mehta, a conductor and violinist in Bombay who, between 1930 and 1954, was the motivating force for young musicians and the founder of the Bombay String Quartet and the Bombay Symphony Orchestra.
Zubin Mehta continues to support the discovery and furtherance of musical talents all over the world. Together with his brother Zarin, he is a co-chairman of the Mehli Mehta Music Foundation in Bombay, where more than 200 children are educated in western classical music.
Mo. Mehta has been granted with the 2011 Spain-India Council Foundation’s International Award as recognition to his work to deepen the relations between our countries. The SICF will organize a solemn ceremony with the highest attendants early 2012.
