A specific roadmap to strengthen, diversify and structure the actions of the Autonomous Community in the Asian continent
The President of the Government of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, recently presented the Asia Strategy 2025-2030, through which the regional government will coordinate its foreign policy in the region, with a long-term perspective and the aim of building reciprocal and sustainable relationships that contribute to addressing major global challenges.
This Strategy will be implemented through two action plans, one for the period 2026-2028 and another for 2028-2030, to ensure its implementation.
The document structures the Asia Strategy around fifteen strategic objectives distributed across five pillars: institutional, multilateral, territorial, and urban alliances; economic and trade relations; cooperation in research, education, and technology; cooperation in urban policies, sustainability, and territorial resilience; and finally, cultural promotion and the strengthening of societies.
These five pillars will focus particularly on three major areas: East Asia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. Priority countries have been defined for each region, and in the case of South Asia, India and Pakistan stand out.
The Strategy also provides for the creation of a monitoring committee, composed of representatives from various departments of the Generalitat (Catalan Government) and institutional, business, and academic organizations with interests in the region.
