The document, prepared in collaboration with Casa Asia, is part of the City Council's strategic internationalization plan and proposes a roadmap to strengthen its presence in the Indian subcontinent
During the fifth Spain-India Forum, organized by the Spain-India Council Foundation and the Barcelona City Council, Mayor Jaume Collboni presented the India Chapter, a document that forms part of the city's strategic internationalization plan and proposes a roadmap for strengthening ties with the Asian nation.
The report, prepared in collaboration with Casa Asia, identifies synergies between cities, think tanks, and economic stakeholders to boost joint economic and social relations. It reviews existing bilateral relations through institutional missions, agreements, consular presence, trade and academic exchanges, as well as the growth of Indian tourism in Catalonia.
Mayor Collboni explained that Barcelona is the first city to have a strategic document "that clearly defines the priority areas for bilateral cooperation." The ‘India Chapter’ is part of Barcelona’s International Strategy 2025-2029 and defines the key areas of action to intensify collaboration in talent acquisition, biotechnology research, urban projects, support for the Indian diaspora, logistics promotion, tourism, startups, and academic mobility, reinforcing Barcelona’s role as an international benchmark.
The mayor concluded that, with these initiatives, the City Council aims to forge “a new relationship with India to make Barcelona a true gateway from the country and all of Asia to Southern Europe.”
