The UVa Foundation's Data Processing Center (CPD) is an advanced facility located in the UVa Science Park in Valladolid. Its main function is to offer secure, high-performance digital services to both the research community and collaborating companies and institutions: it supports research projects, technology startups, and companies hosted at the Science Park.
During their stay in Valladolid, the Leaders visited this center, accompanied by its director, José Manuel Cuena, who explained the details of the facility.
Opened in 2010, the CPD features first-class equipment, the result of a significant investment effort by the UVa Science Park. It has been designed as a flexible, adaptable, and scalable environment and is equipped with the best ICT and internet infrastructure. It meets the most demanding industry specifications and offers flexible solutions.
The Leaders examined the various rooms that make up the data center, including the Technical Room, which houses auxiliary equipment (such as electrical panels, monitoring systems, and switching panels), and the Data Center Room, which houses the equipment that provides the various services.
This equipment is organized in rows of cabinets with independent power supplies and wiring. The entire room maintains a constant temperature of between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius and is designed to dissipate the heat produced by the systems.
Among the advantages of the Data Center's location in Valladolid is its location in an area where there is no risk of flooding for the next 100 years. Furthermore, the probability of seismic activity is zero or very low, which has made it impossible to implement additional measures to address these risks.
Another notable feature of the Data Center is the UVA Science Park's security policy, based on the ISO 27001 standard. This standard certifies greater resilience to cyberattacks, ensures compliance with legal and contractual regulations, and provides greater confidence to clients and partners, which represents a competitive advantage.
The Data Center, which has involved a cumulative investment of €200 million, is a key node for the digital transformation of the University of Valladolid and its business environment.
