India's Minister of Trade and Industry, Piyush Goyal, began a European tour in Spain with an agenda focused on strengthening the economic partnership between the two countries. According to a statement from the Indian ministry, this visit is particularly significant within the context of the Spain-India Dual Year and the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
During the visit, Piyush Goyal held a bilateral meeting with the First Vice President of the Government and Minister of Economy, Trade and Enterprise, Carlos Cuerpo. They engaged in productive discussions on strengthening the economic partnership between Spain and India through trade, investment, and technological collaboration, as the Indian minister noted on his Twitter account, highlighting "a focus on renewable energy, green hydrogen, advanced manufacturing, digital technologies, infrastructure, and innovation." They also reviewed the status of negotiations for the Free Trade Agreement between India and the European Union and agreed to promote the Fast Track Mechanism to facilitate investment.
Later, the Indian minister met with Jordi Hereu, Minister of Industry and Tourism, with whom he discussed opportunities for industrial cooperation, sustainable mobility, advanced manufacturing, and tourism. Both leaders highlighted the Airbus and Tata C-295 program as an example of industrial collaboration under the "Make in India" initiative and agreed on the importance of strengthening ties between companies from both countries in sectors such as automotive, rail, and clean energy.
Finally, Piyush Goyal participated in the India-Spain Business Forum, an event organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, CEOE (Spanish Confederation of Employers' Organizations), and ICEX (Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade). Business leaders and high-ranking officials from both countries participated in this forum with the aim of exploring new investment and collaboration opportunities.
