This year, the Honorary Lifetime Achievement Award goes to Indian filmmaker Gulzar and Hong Kong director Ann Hui
The 24th edition of the ImagineIndia International Film Festival is being held from September 1 to 16 at the Artistic Metropol venue in Madrid. This festival serves as an annual meeting point for Asian and international film talents, specialized journalists, and industry professionals, with a strong commitment to emerging cinematographies. Its main objectives include the defense and promotion of film culture, with a particular focus on Asian cinema.
Over the course of 16 days, the industry, audiences, and critics alike can enjoy a diverse selection of auteur cinema produced around the world, especially across the Asian continent. It is a cinema of quality, deeply personal and creative in its form, marked by artistic independence and a willingness to take risks.
The different sections of the festival compete for first and second prizes in various categories. The highest distinction is the Golden Chakra, a statuette created by Indian artist Velu Vishwanadhan. In addition, an Honorary Lifetime Achievement Award is presented, which in this edition goes to Indian filmmaker Gulzar and Hong Kong director Ann Hui. Sampooran Singh Kalra, better known by his pen name Gulzar, is an Indian poet, writer, and filmmaker. In 2008, he won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Jai Ho” (shared with A. R. Rahman) in the film Slumdog Millionaire. In 2013, he received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honor in Indian cinema.
