This new route will allow access from the capital to more than 100 cities in Southeast Asia, Oceania and the Indian subcontinent
The Madrid City Council recently celebrated the opening of a new route to Singapore's Changi Airport, which will be operated by Singapore Airlines starting at the end of October. With an estimated impact of €265 million, the new route will allow Madrid to attract high-end tourism from Asian markets.
This new route complements the plan undertaken by the Regional Government, the City Council, and IFEMA Madrid, dubbed "Madrid Tourism by IFEMA Madrid," which has positioned the capital among the leading Asian tourism markets.
According to the Madrid City Council, Asia is one of the most strategic regions for consolidating high-end tourism in the city, thanks to its high-value, long-stay profile, which helps to reduce the seasonality of the destination. Thanks to the reach of Singapore's airport network, more than 100 cities in Southeast Asia, Oceania, and the Indian subcontinent will be accessible to Madrid. Changi is the fourth busiest airport in the world in terms of international seating capacity and has direct connections to more than 50 countries, including India.
According to the Councillor for Tourism, Almudena Maíllo, "the arrival of Singapore Airlines in Madrid is excellent news for the Madrid economy. This route, with an estimated impact of €265 million, gives us direct access to one of the world's fastest-growing markets."
