The Spanish company is investing €47.4 million in the first two phases of a new facility in Gujarat, consolidating its commitment to the Indian market after 20 years of operations in the country.
Gestamp, a patron of the Fundación Consejo España-India, has expanded its presence in India with the inauguration of a new plant in Bhagapura, in the state of Gujarat, the company’s fifth production facility in the country.
The new plant represents an investment of €47.4 million in phases 1 and 2 and reinforces Gestamp’s commitment to India, where the company has been present for 20 years and has established itself as a trusted technology partner for both local manufacturers and international producers operating in the country.
The plant was inaugurated by Francisco J. Riberas, Executive Chairman of Gestamp; Antonio López, CEO of the company in Asia; Glyn Jones, Country Manager and President of Gestamp India; and Patricia Riberas, Chief Corporate Officer.
The facility, located in Bhagapura, one of the country’s main automotive industrial hubs, currently employs around 240 professionals and has two hot-stamping lines, one laser-cutting line and welding cells for assembly activities.
With an industrial area of 31,790 m², the plant specializes in the manufacture of highly engineered metal components for vehicle bodies and has the capacity to produce products from the Ges-Gigastamping® family, lightweight, large-sized components that help optimize vehicle consumption, reduce CO₂ emissions, increase safety and improve the efficiency of manufacturers’ assembly processes.
The facility also incorporates a monitoring system to identify and eliminate inefficiencies and optimize energy consumption. The company also plans to sign agreements to purchase energy with a renewable energy guarantee of origin.
Gestamp began operations in India in 2006 and, after its initial years as a partner in industrial projects, started developing its own production capabilities in the country from 2010 onwards.
With the opening of Bhagapura, the company now has five plants in India: three in Pune, in the state of Maharashtra; one in Chennai, in Tamil Nadu; and the new facility in Gujarat.
Overall, Gestamp currently has 188,000 m² of industrial capacity in India, including 14 stamping production lines, five of them using hot-stamping technology, with two additional hot-stamping lines currently being installed.
The company employs around 2,300 people in India, where it manufactures body components and assemblies, chassis parts and mechanisms such as door hinges and retainers.
Gestamp’s revenues in India grew by more than 80% over the last five full financial years, reaching €245 million at the end of 2025.
The opening of the Bhagapura plant thus consolidates Gestamp’s growth trajectory in India and reflects the company’s commitment to a growing market as part of its global selective investment strategy.
