The new facilities will serve as a center for engineering, digital transformation, customer service, and purchasing
As part of its expansion in India under the national 'Make in India' initiative, our patron Airbus has inaugurated a new technology center in Bangalore, marking a milestone in consolidating the company's industrial and technological presence in the Asian country.
The official opening ceremony was attended by officials from the state of Karnataka, including Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Minister of Industry and Infrastructure MB Patil. Minister of Civil Aviation Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu also participated virtually, along with senior Airbus executives such as Catherine Jestin and Jürgen Westermeier. The latter highlighted the strategic importance of the project, stating: “The opening of the Airbus India Technology Center represents a strategic boost to our trajectory in India: it provides us with the scale and scope for our next phase of growth. (...) This center will allow us to expand existing technological capabilities and innovation ecosystems, while addressing the customer service and procurement dimensions of our 'Make in India' mission. It ensures that Indian expertise remains present at every stage of our global value chain.”
The new facilities, with capacity for approximately 5,000 employees, bring together previously dispersed areas under one roof, facilitating greater coordination and a more agile response to the company's global needs. The Bangalore campus has thus become Airbus's largest engineering and digital center outside of Europe, and its work is integrated into all phases of the lifecycle of its airplanes and helicopters: from the maintenance of essential technologies to research on next-generation aircraft, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. In addition, there is a customer service center that provides technical and operational support to both Indian and international operators.
Furthermore, the complex serves as a key hub for procurement and supply activities within the "Make in India" strategy. Airbus has significantly increased its procurement volume in the country, exceeding $1.5 billion annually and with projections to reach $2 billion by the end of the decade. As part of its commitment to talent development, the campus will also house a local chapter of the Airbus Leadership University.
