On 21st November, the Spanish Ambassador to India, José María Ridao, received in New Delhi the Spanish delegation that would later participate in the III Spain-India Forum, which took place on 22nd November at the Instituto Cervantes in New Delhi. This preliminary session served to address the state and prospects of Spain-India bilateral relations, as well as to lay the groundwork for the more specific dialogues that would take place during the III Spain-India Forum.

Reflections on Spain and India

Juan Ignacio Entrecanales, President of the Spain-India Council Foundation (SICF), opened the meeting by highlighting the importance of the Forum for bilateral relations.

José María Ridao, Spain's Ambassador to India, gave a detailed overview of the current state of bilateral relations. He highlighted the uniqueness of the Spain-India relationship, marked by convergence of interests in various areas. The Ambassador emphasised the need for even closer collaboration to harness the full potential of this relationship.

Counsellors and attachés of the Spanish Embassy in India provided detailed analyses of collaboration on specific issues, such as economics and trade, security and defence, and science and technology.

Strategic conversation and networking

The meeting facilitated an open dialogue where practical and strategic issues were addressed. The delegation, with representatives from various sectors, reflected Spain's multifaceted commitment to cooperation with India. Questions and reflections were raised, setting a framework for the specific dialogues that would later take place during the III Spain-India Forum. After the meeting, the Ambassador hosted a reception at his residence, providing a relaxed atmosphere for the Spanish delegation to meet and interact.

These events not only strengthened the network of contacts between Spain and India, one of the main objectives of the Spain-India Council Foundation, but also fostered a deeper understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing both nations in multiple sectors that would be discussed in depth at the III Spain-India Forum.
