“Thank you so much for being here today, Her Majesty, and thank you for honouring me with this award”
Zubin Mehta showed his gratitude for the Spain India Council Foundation Award, which to him represents huge recognition since, as he mentioned, “half an hour before the premiere of one of Verdi's greatest operas, it is an honour to look at the relation between Spain and India.” In a relaxed note, Mehta emphasised the following: “Many Spaniards searched for India for a long time, as did Christopher Columbus, who never found it. I can say I found what I was looking for, and since 1968, Spain is and always will be in my heart.”
He also added: “Valencia is already a world beacon in opera, and I sincerely wish the Festival del Mediterrani continues to be a success moving forward, as I feel proud to be here.”
“Thank you so much for being here today, Her Majesty, and thank you for honouring me with this award,” he concluded.
